The purpose of the project was to contribute to the development of lignocellulosic biomass valorization with the application of heterogeneous catalysis assisted by ultrasound energy. The proposed research included the synthesis of organic-inorganic materials used in the next step as catalysts for selective sono-oxidation of sugars (e.g. from glucose to gluconic/glucaric acids) and lignin-based aromatic alcohols into aldehydes (e.g. selective sono-oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde).
“I would like to acknowledge the COST Association (Action FP1306) for the Trainee Grant (COST-STSM-ECOST-STSM-FP1306-010216 – 068720) and for the opportunity to take part in this Short-Term Scientific Mission. It was a great opportunity to enhance my personal knowledge and skills. Additionally, it was a chance to create the long-standing collaboration between two European research teams.” Ewelina Kuna
