E‑MRS 2024 Fall Meeting Highlights: Advancements in Advanced Ceramics for Energy and Environmental Applications — Warsaw, Poland – September 16 – 192024

The E‑MRS 2024 Fall Meeting and Exhibit took place at the University of Technology in Warsaw, Poland, bringing together leading international scholars, scientists, and young researchers from across the globe.

The event focused on the urgent issues surrounding energy and environmental sustainability, with an emphasis on the development and application of advanced ceramics for energy and environmental solutions.

The symposium, titled Advanced Ceramics for Energy and Environmental Applications,” aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the function of advanced ceramics, particularly composite structures, highlighting their crucial role in environmental monitoring and remediation. The symposium showcased innovative approaches in photocatalysis, water treatment, hydrogen production, and carbon capture, among other significant areas.

The event facilitated knowledge exchange and collaboration among experts, offering a platform for interdisciplinary discourse aimed at advancing sustainable technologies.

Contributions from Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences Researchers — Catalysis for Sustainable Energy Production and Environmental Protection Group

  • Team leader, Prof. dr. Juan Carlos Colmenares Quintero, The event organizer and participant in the symposium, engaging with international scholars to discuss advancements in catalyst development for energy and environmental applications.
  • Dr. Hanggara Sudrajat presented his work on enhancing the selectivity of graphitic carbon nitride in the photocatalytic oxidation of aromatic alcohol using single copper atoms, providing new insights into atomistic-level interactions. His session, E07_​Session 7, took place on September 17, 2024, at 14:00.
  • Dr. Ahmed Malek Djaballah presented his work titled Metal-Optimized MBi2O4-TiO2 for Eco-Friendly Lignin Visible-Light-Oxidation during FP01_​Poster Session 1 on September 16, 2024, at 17:30.
  • Behdokht Hashemi Hosseini shared her research on the synthesis of chitosan-lignin catalysts for sonophotocatalytic reactions, focusing on the role of sonication and isotropic solvents. She presented during E04_​Session 4 on September 16, 2024, at 16:00.

The event organizers, including Prof. Elisa Moretti (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), Prof. Dr. Juan Carlos Colmenares Quintero (Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences), and Prof. Alberto Vomiero (Luleå University of Technology), emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between academia, industry, and funding agencies to drive forward the development of efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly energy materials.

The E‑MRS 2024 Fall Meeting was a significant step toward advancing sustainable solutions for a cleaner and more efficient energy future, providing a roadmap for future research and innovation in the field.
